Improving the oral health of children and young people

We are delighted that Owen has been accepted on to the Level 2 complexity care training programme for paediatric dentistry, which is managed by the Workforce Training and Education Directorate of NHS England – Yorkshire and the Humber.

Owen already has a masters degree in Primary Dental Care from the University of Glasgow, which focused his interest in improving the oral health of children. The 24-month programme begins in January 2025 and will enable him to further develop his skills.

He will receive training in managing conditions such as dental anomalies, traumatic dental injuries and working with children who are anxious or phobic. “I can’t believe that I’ve been working at the practice for almost six months,” said Owen. “They say that ‘time flies when you are having fun’! I am committed to working in our village, treating adults and children alike.

“This new programme will develop and up-skill members of the local dental workforce, thereby reducing the pressures on specialist and consultant services. I’m looking forward to getting started.”

Rob commented, “Owen’s extra training will see our practice treat more children, from Cottingham and beyond, who have complex dental problems. His enhanced skills will also help us to expand the range of options we can offer to our existing patients. We wish him every success.”
